Hi I have just come across this thread whilst searching for Black and Decker Thermal Leak Detector Information. I noticed that the previous comments said the product was not available in the UK (these comments were over 12 months ago) well I am now pleased to tell you that the device is now available in the UK from Amazon and if you follow this link
http://amzn.to/f6foRN it will take you straight to the product.
I have bought one and so far I have found several places which need to be further insulated and sealed so hopeefully when next winter comes we will be all nicely draughtproofed and ready for the winter chill.
Roll on the cold weather (not really I love the summer)

Here's an automotive idea for you that could work if you can't find another source in the UK.

I use an automotive pyrometer.

It is a digital readout device with a flexible arm that's used for sampling temperatures in and around an automobile. Since it can be used on anything from air conditioning to hot exhaust manifolds, it certainly can capture differences in temperature in a home.
